DAWN KALU
ABOUT
My sources are many…shadows, dreams, birds, National Geographic, the refugee crisis, objects, faces, family and sometimes I make small figures from card, paper, textiles and work from them. I may work entirely from imagination but usually also with representational imagery. The background wash may dictate the content. I have followed a theme as in my premature baby work.
I use acrylics, oils and ink together with collage and monoprint. There has to be a feeling response to create a mood or atmosphere. Spontaneity often needs drawing and research first. By bringing together the outer and inner worlds it is my way of bearing witness to the sometimes unbearable world.
